The traditional hardware of cities – the city’s skeleton – its trains, roads, hospitals, schools, theaters, office blocks, shopping malls, energy and water grids are now increasingly connected. City dwellers are also increasingly connected to one another, to city government, and to services. Parts of that very system are increasingly connected, machine-to-machine.
