The Pearl River Delta region of southern China is one of the world's great megacity clusters. Spanning cities of different political status such as Guangzhou and Hong Kong, it represents the triumph of functional integration over political geography. With 80 million people and a GDP approaching $2 trillion, it is one of the main urban anchors of the 21st century global economy.
