Global cities are ranked according to their central role in the global flows of goods, services, people, capital, and data. According to McKinsey, the top-tier of global cities originally included New York and London, followed by Tokyo and Hong Kong, and eventually Singapore and Dubai. In the most recent ranking, Tokyo has been replaced by Shanghai and Los Angeles has been added. Many believe that San Francisco will be the next city to enter this elite group.
